How likely is it to get the ILR after 3 years on Global Talent Visa?

Post by abdul_35 » Sat Jan 04, 2025 9:38 am

Hi,

I am on a skilled worker visa and want to apply for the Global Talent Visa (GTV). I have a PhD in Electronic Engineering and currently I am working in a University. I have spent almost 17 months on the skilled worker visa. I want to ask, how likely is it to get the ILR after 3 years of SKilled woker visa+ GTV? I am posting this to decide should I apply for a 2 year GTV or a 3 year GTV by keeping ILR in mind.

Thanks and regards,
Abdul

Not familiar with the subject, but I expect this is laid down in the immigration rules. Not a matter of opinion.
This is just my opinion as a member of this forum and does not constitute immigration advice.

Actually I wanted to know if there is someone who got the ILR application rejected after spending 3 years on Global Talent Visa (GTV). I have already spent 17 months on the skilled worker visa and will now be applying for the GTV. I need guidance, should I go for the 2-year GTV (my total time will be 3 years and 5 months) or 3-year GTV (my total time will be 4 years and 5 months) for the ILR? Applying for the 2-year GTV will save IHS fees of one year (£1035). Hopefully, I am a bit more clear now.

Thanks and regards,
Abdul

Please stop posting polls for members (all of js complete strangers) to decide for you!! The polls have been removed.

The UKVI website is clear you can apply for any length of GTV. It is YOUR decision and choice.

No one can tell you if you will get ILR or not, there are no guarantees. You simply need to meet the requirements of the rules.

Dear Abdul, There is no issue with the ILR conditional how well you meet the other criteria which you can find easily in the application check list.
Related to the length of GTV, you need 03 years atleast (GTV+skilled worker) before you can apply for ILR on GTV route. Given your length of stay on SW you need to apply for 02 years GTV. I hope this helps. Good Luck!

As immigration rules says, you can combine the time from skilled worker visa and GTV to apply for ILR.
If your GTV allows for ILR on three years, you can apply for ILR right after meeting three years continuous residence. It is technically possible, even if you stayed only a month on GTV out of those three years. I know a friend applied for ILR just after three months of GTV, and received ILR.

Thanks a lot for the kind reply and providing an example of a friend. I will proceed with 02 years GTV now.
