Visa type for newborn

Post by Nikish » Sun Jan 12, 2025 9:59 am

I am very confused about which visa to apply for our newborn.

My husband and I are working in the UK. Husband is on Tier 2 skilled worker visa. I have an ILR through 10 year route.

I have a newborn born in India. Which visa should I apply for? I am getting very confused with the info on the ukvi website.

Skilled worker dependent visa for the child.

Thank you @CR001 for the reply.

An immigration lawyer said a child cannot apply on their own for a dependent tier2 visa and that has left me confused. Not something I have heard of before. They seemed very unsure but it almost sounded like there is no way to bring the baby to UK and has now left me so much anxiety. I am due the baby very shortly and cannot even travel back.

Would appreciate your input on this, thank you!

They are talking absolute nonsense!!

Did you realise that if you had stayed and had the baby in the UK, the baby would have been automatically British and could have applied for a British passport directly, avoiding all the visa and ILR fees etc.

I appreciate that but we had to take this decision due to personal circumstances.

Thank you for your input and will look into applying as a dependent under my husband.

I am guessing we can then apply for ILR and naturalisation along with my husband when he qualifies?
