Issue with Bank Account Opening: Fraud Agency Check Failure on Tier 2 Visa

Post by Rajesh13 » Wed Jan 15, 2025 12:08 pm

I am on a Tier 2 sponsorship visa and have recently arrived in the UK. I have an eVisa and am trying to open a bank account using a shared code. I can see my visa details, but the bank is saying that the fraud agency check has failed. What can I do? What exactly is the problem? Is it related to my company or something else? I am unable to open a bank account in multiple banks.

Did the bank tell you that the issue is linked to your visa?

You already have a valid visa to the UK and to me the problem seems to be more an internal stuff. I reckon that opening a bank account after arrival in the UK is not a straightforward process.

By the way, you have a Skilled Worker visa which replaced the old Tier 2 visa in 2020.

they cannot give your more info because if they did, it would be considered as "tip off"
If you did nothing wrong in the past, probably your name is similar to someone who does not have good bank history

Not sure whether this helps:

https://www.cifas.org.uk/

Not familiar with this but I understand UK banks work with them.

This does occur in the NHS & HMRC and some people do not have surname (you can find these cases in this forum)

I knew a case where NHS used someone else record because they were not familiar with Asian name
Also someone got HMRC letter for Self assessment but actually someone else paid tax using his account :D

Highly unlikely. It would be related to you as an individual.

Which banks have you tried so far? And what type of accounts are you trying to open?

To me this is not an immigration problem, it seems to be more a civil issue.

Try other banks: Barclays, Santander.

I also struggled to open a bank account when I first arrived in the UK. Go to a high street branch and speak with an agent face to face, don't use the online application forms.
