Will my application be OK? Proof of residence affidavit

Post by nacbokmagi » Mon Jan 20, 2025 7:59 pm

Hello guys, long time lurker here. I've finally reached the point where I can apply for citizenship by naturalization (EU member).

I did it today, but I'm still unsure about the 50 points for the proof of residence for 2020/2021. I came to Ireland in June 2019. Because of the housing situation and whatnot, I ended up renting in places that were subletting, so no house contract and no bills.

I've managed to snatch a bill contract with Eir in 2020, but I could only save a single bill (December 2020) before they closed and deleted my account, after I left them.
2021 has only electricity/gas bills starting October, when I could finally rent in a ''legal'' place and took care of paying the electricity in the house. Everything has been great onwards. I have everything in place.

I spoke with my solicitor in Dublin today, and she gave the affidavit form and told me to fill it and explain this that I wrote, then send it along with the rest. Mind you, I have bank statements and employment details summary for each year, so this is only a case of bills.

The pandemic in 2020/2021 also played a roll in my economy, so topping up the phone when I really needed seemed better than being attached to a monthly phone bill.

I'm just nervous that they'll ask me for extra proof, which I don't have. What do you think?

I’m in a somewhat similar situation. I’m not an EU citizen, but I have 5 years working in a critical skills role.
During my first 3 years here, I was subletting a place, and only in the last 1.5 years was I able to rent a legal place.

My sub-landlord (also a non-EU citizen) said that if necessary, he can provide a letter explaining that I paid rent to him, and he suggested attaching bank transfer receipts as proof.

Like you, I also don’t have other bills in my name. My bank account is with Revolut, and my phone is prepaid.
The only letters I have in my name are government communications, such as when I received my IRP card.

I’m worried they might find this information insufficient, even though I’ve worked at the same company for these 5 years and can provide a declaration from them.
