Redundancy on Skilled worker visa

Post by vermaekansh » Wed Feb 12, 2025 10:48 am

Hi everyone,

I am in the same situation.

My employer has made my role redundant, with my probable last working day set as 14th March 2025. I am currently on a sponsored visa from my current employer and have a Skilled Worker Visa, which is valid until 18th June 2025.

I understand that once my employer notifies the Home Office, I will receive a curtailment email, granting me a 60-day grace period to find a new sponsor.

My questions are:
• If my 60-day period extends beyond 18th June 2025 (my current visa expiry date), will I still be allowed to stay in the UK for the full 60 days?
• Also What if i receive this email after 18th June 2025 which is my current vis expiry. Will I be allowed to stay in UK until the end of 60 day period after I receive the email?
• Can I secure a new sponsor during this extended period?
• Will this reset my ILR clock? as I have another 2.3 years be eligible for it.

I would appreciate any insights or experiences on this matter.

Thank you in advance!

Do not dig up older topics to tag your query onto.

Curtailment letters can take a while. You do not get 60 days if your visa already expires before that time. You do not get any extra time added after your visa expires. You simply need to leave by 18th June.
• Also What if i receive this email after 18th June 2025 which is my current vis expiry. Will I be allowed to stay in UK until the end of 60 day period after I receive the email?
You must leave the UK on or before 18th June if you have not submitted another visa application. The 60 days does not get added to your current visa expiry.
• Can I secure a new sponsor during this extended period?
You need to find a sponsor, get a CoS and submit an application before rhe 18th June.
• Will this reset my ILR clock? as I have another 2.3 years be eligible for it.
Not if you apply before your visa expires.

Apologies, I should have created my own post for this question.
Is there any other way you can suggest in which I will be allowed to live in UK and find a sponsor if I fail to find one on or before 18th June 2025.

You've not said what sector is your occupation, but it's completely possible to find a new sponsor before 18-06-2025, just need to start now!

If you haven't secured another sponsored job by that date, you must leave the UK otherwise you'll be an overstayer. There are no concessions to give more time to stay in order to find a sponsor.

A curtailment letter will not give you time beyond the visa expiry date.

Thanks lolo2,

I am working in finance sector in London.
Would you recommend going for a FLR (HRO) route to secure my stay in UK for longer beyond my Visa expiry. will it reset my ILR clock irrespective of the decision?

FLR HRO is not an appropriate application to buy time. What Human rights claim do you believe you have that require such an application?

There isnt any visa to simply buy time.

Simply start looking for sponsor now.

Finance always has a high demand, and don't limit your search to London only.

Regarding a FLR (HRO) application, that has nothing to do with the Skilled Worker route. It's not an application to "secure your stay" in the UK for longer.
