Tier 2 Visa and Dependant Parent

My friend from India is exploring a potential role in the same company he is working for in the UK. I assume he will come in on a Tier 2 visa and heis daughter and wife will be able to come to UK with him as dependants. I wanted to check would the process for his mother will be as she also lives permanently with them.

He cannot bring his mother as his dependent. The rules don't permit extended family.

He can only bring a spouse and children under 18.

So in terms of bringin his mother with him he has no option but the visitor visa which will allow her to be there for ma 6 months a year ?
