Switching from Skilled Worker to Global Talent Visa – Dependant Renewal for My Wife

Post by Moathdalahmeh » Thu Mar 20, 2025 12:40 pm

Hello everyone,

Hello everyone,

I recently submitted an application to switch from the Skilled Worker visa to the Global Talent visa on 3 March 2025, and I’m currently waiting for a decision, which is expected by 28 April 2025.

My wife is living with me in the UK as my dependant (Partner), and her current visa is valid until 14 April 2025.

I would like to ask:

Since her visa expires before my Global Talent visa decision is expected, what are the options for extending or switching her visa?
Can she apply to switch to a dependant under the Global Talent route before my visa is approved?
If we wait until my Global Talent visa is granted, will she be allowed to stay in the UK legally after 14 April while we prepare her application?
What’s the best course of action to avoid any risk of overstaying?

Thank you in advance!

Best regards,
Moa’th

Hi,

I'm not an expert but just sharing what I know/did. I'm applying for my GTV currently. Using my stage 1 reference number, I already applied for extension of my dependents even before applying for my stage 2. This way, their leave to remain has extended till they get result on their visa application, which is in turn dependent on the result of my visa application.

So, you can also apply for your dependents' visa before your result. Requesting any expert to confirm if I'm suggesting correctly.

Best wishes,
SG

Partner Visa Extension – Can I Apply for Only 1 Year?

Post by Moathdalahmeh » Tue Apr 01, 2025 10:48 pm

Hi everyone,

My wife is currently in the UK on a Partner visa which is valid until 14 April 2025. We're planning to apply for an extension soon, but we are wondering if it's possible to apply for just 1 year instead of the usual 2.5 years?

Has anyone done this before, or can anyone confirm if the Home Office allows applying for a shorter extension period?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

No, you can't apply for just 1 year.

Also, your spouse seems to be on a Skilled Worker visa not a spouse visa.
