Skilled Worker - Newborn Visa Questions

Post by ankurprdhn » Sat Apr 12, 2025 3:17 pm

Hi everyone,
I'm currently in the UK on a Skilled Worker Dependant visa which is valid till Aug 2026 and had a baby this month. My ILR is due in March 2026.
I'm considering not applying for a visa for my baby since (from what I understand) it's not strictly required at this stage. The baby gets access to NHS care for the first 3 months, and after that, we plan to use private health insurance, which we're arranging now.
The plan is: once I get my ILR, I’ll apply for British citizenship for the baby using the MN1 form.
Has anyone else followed a similar route? Are there any risks or downsides I should be aware of by not applying for a visa for the baby immediately?
Any advice or experience would be really appreciated—thanks in advance!

If you want to travel with baby then a visa is required.
If no travel planned there isn't an issue, except for the unknown unknowns.
It's a fairly common scenario so no issue on the face of it.

Thanks. I am mainly concerned about nhs charges. Does private insurance take care of all the charges?

Other members may be able to comment on the private health insurance cover - or check directly with providers.

This is nothing to do with immigration. Whether charges are covered depends on the private medical insurance cover you take out.
