I am writing to seek clarification regarding the immigration whitepaper released on 12 May. The document does not specify whether the proposed 10-year requirement for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) applies solely to new Skilled Worker visa applicants or if it will also be extended to existing visa holders, who were previously eligible after five years.

If this change is intended to include current Skilled Worker visa holders, it would represent a significant and challenging shift—particularly in the context of the ongoing cost of living crisis and the current job market conditions in the UK.

I would greatly appreciate it if you could confirm whether this policy change applies retrospectively or only to future applicants.
