Child born to non-British parents

Hello,

My child was born a few days ago. I currently hold ILR and had applied for British citizenship before my child was born.

Is it better to wait until my citizenship is approved and then apply for my child’s first passport? Or will I have to use my ILR status anyway to apply for the child’s passport?

I would prefer to wait until I become British so I can use the passport instead of the BRP/e-visa — or is that not possible?

Your child, if born in the UK, is automatically British based on your status at the time of birth. It has nothing to do with a pending citizenship application. Your ILR is proof of the childs British citizenship if the child was born after you obtained ILR. You must keep proof of your ILR status forever, as that is what determines the childs nationality.

Irrelevant and not advised!! It is based on YOUR status at the time of the childs' birth, ie your ILR.
