Travelling abroad after applying for UK Naturalisation

Post by mrunknown » Wed Jul 09, 2025 10:17 am

Hi,

I hope you are well.

I am new to this platform and some friends recommended me to ask any questions I have regarding my application.

I currently hold Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) and am planning to travel abroad for four nights in August. I intend to submit my UK naturalisation application later this month. I hold a Pakistani passport and have applied for a visa to enter my intended destination country.

I would like to confirm whether I am permitted to travel after submitting my naturalisation application. I understand that the Home Office may request all of my passports as part of the process to issue the certificate of naturalisation. Could you please advise if this would impact my ability to travel during that time?

Thank you for your guidance.

Kind regards
MrUnknown

You're free to travel after naturalisation application submission.

Passports are not required to issue a certificate of naturalisation.

You may travel after submitting your application. Best to do your traveling after attending the biometrics appointment.
You only submit scans of all documents, no originals. The point about ALL passports only refers to the British passport application for that one you submit originals.
This is just my opinion as a member of this forum and does not constitute immigration advice.
Please do not send me private messages asking for advice.

Furthermore, I have two referees. What information I would be requesting them to send me which goes on the form. I know that I need their nationality. Passport number, address and years of address, how are they related to me .

Any other information I would need to request like a passport sized photo of them and the declaration need to be signed on paper so I could rescan it and attach it with my docs.

No photos from the referees are needed!

The forms can be digitally signed.

Question on Mother’s Name on Documents for Naturalisation Application

Post by mrunknown » Mon Aug 11, 2025 12:51 pm

Hi everyone,

I’m applying for UK naturalisation and I have a question about my mother’s documents.

My parents are divorced. My father is British and lives in the UK. My mother moved back to Pakistan after the divorce and has been living there since.

She has a Pakistani passport which shows my father’s name (her ex-husband) on it. That passport has now expired.

In Pakistan, she could get a new identity document with her father’s name as her surname, but that would mean changing her ID card, bank details, and other records.

Would it be better for her to keep her current name (with my father’s name) and simply renew her expired passport with the same details, in case the Home Office asks for her ID?

Or should she change her name back to her father’s name on all her documents and bank accounts, and then get a new passport showing her father’s name?

I have got 2 referees declarations last week as well. This is the final step to applying.

Any advice or experiences would be very helpful.

Thank you.

You are applying for naturalisation after ilr, these parent documents are irrelevant.

Hi,

So I should be using my mother’s current name with my father’s name (her ex husband’s name)?

I want to get my mother’s name right. I am not worried about parents documents

Kind regards,
Mr Unknown

Your parents details are not relevant if you are applying for citizenship in your own right.

My parent’s details are requested on the form online for Naturalisation. I put my father’s information like full name, date of birth, nationality, country he was born. The same information is required for my mother. I filled the rest in but I am confused about her name.

What would you suggest to be used ?

Her name is the name on her current official documents.

You really are overthinking here. If you are not claiming citizenship through your parents, their details are irrelevant.

Thank you for the clarification.

It make sense that I am applying as I have spent 5 + years in the UK and want to settle here for good.
