Spouse Visa extension - Address proofs

Post by nancy_kk » Tue Aug 05, 2025 8:45 pm

Hi All,

I have UK citizenship, and my wife was applied for spouse visa from India. She came to UK in Feb 2023 and living together since then. Now we are planning to apply for her Visa extension sometime next month. We just started working on application and came to know that there are 6 letters required it seems (at least from 3 sources) from last 2 years.

My wife and Me have below communication letters.

| Desc | Source | Date |Applicant |Sponsor
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
|NHS Registration |NHS |28.02.2023 | X | X
|NIN Registration |Work and Pensions |05.06.2024 | X | X
|Council letter1 |Council |18.11.2024 | X | X
|Council letter2 |Council |14.03.2025 | X | X
|Council letter3 |Council |10.07.2025 | X | X
NHS Registration |NHS |04.08.2025 | X | X
Pension Benefit St |Work and Pensions |15.07.2025 | X | X

Could you please suggest on below queries please..?

My wife’s 1st NHS letter above is on 28th Feb’23 which is more than two years. As per the application they need from last 2 years only. Will they consider this letter?

I (sponsor) also have 5 letters only. Is it mandatory to submit original letters received only as I have online statements for Water/Elec/Bank statements??

Dates are not even from last 2 years. Will it be an issue?

6 letters are mandatory? Is any one have success story with less than 6 letters?

Thank you in advance,

I (sponsor) also have 5 letters only. You can supplement with a bank statement. Is it mandatory to submit original letters received only as I have online statements for Water/Elec/Bank statements?? Online copies are fine. Originals not required, you're sending soft copies.

Dates are not even from last 2 years. Will it be an issue? It has to fall between when she arrived and when you plan to renew. Residency period.

6 letters are mandatory? Is any one have success story with less than 6 letters?

Thank you in advance,

Thank you Ticktack.

We used to send signed (with stamp) documents before if document is not original. But I read somewhere that we need to send soft copies only now except applicant's passport. Is this true please for Employer letters/Payslips/P60/Bank Statements/English Lang test, Etc. ??

fyi, Visa extension application is from within UK

Thank you again

You do NOT need to stamp copies of documents.

Just upload digital copies.

You do also have to upload the passport and take the original to the biometric appointment for identity check.

Hi CR001, Thank you very much for your reply.

Last query please....

My wife's fist visa application was in 2022 ending and I understand minimum income should be £18.6K per year to meet financial requirement. My salary is more than £45K so I think it should be ok. (I have have 3 yrs son who got UK citizenship recently). Question is, do I need to maintain the funds for last 6 months in my bank account to show I have enough funds to support wife and son? or It is ok to show salary deposits as per payslips?

And is it ok to submit last 6 months payslips? or last 12 months?

Thank you again for your time,

Cash savings for Visa extension

Post by nancy_kk » Fri Aug 15, 2025 11:39 am

Hi,

My wife's fist visa application was in 2022 ending and she is going for extension now. I understand minimum income should be £18.6K per year to meet financial requirement. My salary income is £45K and I am providing the same as proof of income. Question is, do I need to maintain the same funds for last 6 months in my bank account to show I have enough funds to support my wife and son? (I have British passport so my 3 yrs old son also got British passport recently)

And I need to submit payslips and Bank statement for last 6 months only?

Thank you,

It is not necessary to start a new topic with every question you have on the same application.

Keep all your questions in one topic, this one!!

Hi,
Could someone please help me to answer my query?
Do I need to maintain the funds in my bank account for last 6 months though I have met financial requirement with my employment? If Yes, is it £18,600 as my child got British passport recently?? Or +£3800 for my child also??

There is no 6 months maintenance fund for a spouse visa.

You simply need to prove you meet the financial requirement for your spouse ONLY for a minimum of 6 months if you have been with the same employer,ie payslips, bank statements and employer letter.

Note that we are all unpaid volunteers here with normal job and family commitments!!!

Re: Earliest date to apply for Visa Extension

Post by nancy_kk » Thu Aug 21, 2025 5:13 pm

Hi All,

My wife's visa validity is from 24th Jan 2023 to 24th Oct 2025. She came to UK 25days later i.e. 18th Feb 2023 and she travelled back to home country for 60days last year. It means, she is off for 85days (60+25, total almost 3 months) during 2yr 10months visa.
We are planning to apply for visa extension on 1st Sep, it is 54 days before expiry date. I think she will get next visa max. 2 yrs 6 months + 23 days (based on below note from gov.uk). Question is, is it ok to apply on 1st Sep based on my above details to avoid any impact on ILR application later? Or better to apply during end of Sep to avoid risk for ILR application?

"If you’re extending to stay with the same family member, you’ll only get up to 28 days left on your current stay added to your new visa"

Thank you,

Not all spouse visa applicants get an extra 28 days. Many only get 2 years and 6 months validity.

Her qualifying period for ILR starts counting from her first date of entry to the UK.

You don't gain anything by applying too early. Apply a bit later to avoid any surprises.

There are NO absence limits for spouse visa ILR either so her 60 days are irrelevant and will only need to be declared in the ILR form.

Hi,

Hope this is my last query before I submit my wife's application in next 2 weeks.
I am providing signed letter stating she has permission to live with me in my property as I am the owner.
But regarding property ownership, actually i have bought new property in April'25 and as per solicitor, Title register official copy from HMRC takes time it seems (i.e. mid of next year). So could you please suggest what documents I can submit for proof of property ownership (apart from mortgage statement which was started just 4 months before).
fyi, I have completion letter from Solicitor, signed Transfer document and Land Transaction Return Certificate

Thank you again,
