hi, I hope somebody can help me, I will ba making a application for my wife for British citizenship. I have read the guidance which says you have to inform if you have ever had a bankruptcy. my wife has had a DEBT RELIEF ORDER which finished a month ago, she has ILR for over 5 years. can anyone advise further

What does she have it for? It is best to declare it anyway and show the efforts she has done to get her finances back in order.

credit card and personal loan, she no longer has any credit cards or loans, also we have a disabled child and she is the main carer as I her husband is also disabled

Disability in the family won't be relevant. Did she declare bankruptcy? Did she fail to pay council tax or NHS bills?

no she never declared bankruptcy and has no nhs debt and council tax is up to date, I did ring the ukvi, they said to me she will have to wait 1 year after she is discharged until she can apply for British citizenship is this correct? now she has no debt e.g personal loans and credit cards, how does she show her finances are in order?

my wife's debt occurred mainly during covid and because of my mental health as I her husband was using her cards, I am able to get a letter from my psychiatrist confirming I her husband occurred the debts on my wife's name as I had stopped taking my medication, will this be of any help ?

she has been discharged from the debt as 1 year has now passed and her dro has been completed , meaning the duration of 1 year has now passed and she is free of all debt

Just declare it in a cover letter to be on the safe side, though it shouldn't be a problem.

Biometrics trics are done after you submit and pay online.

in 2022 or 2023 I got a fixed penalty notices for parking on a red route, I was a new driver at the time and I paid the fine

in 2024 I went through a bus lane twice by mistake I was issued 2 fixed penalty notices and paid them on time

in 2023 I had to go abroad to visit my seriously ill sister because of this I had to teke out my children from school as their was nobody to look after them as my husband has severe mental health problems and is unable to look after the children also my son is born with a heart defect and is autistic so he requires care and supervision all the time, I received a fixed penalty notice for this and paid it on time

in 2025 February
I had to go abroad again and had to take my children out of school for 5 days because my mother was ill I received a fixed penalty notice and paid it on time for the same reasons as my son is disabled and my husband due to his sickness and side effects of medication is not capable of looking after the children

do I need to disclose this with my application ?

If you respect the absence requirements no need to mention the reason for your journeys.

You need to disclose all the fines you got and that now you are trying to be a more responsible driver.

We don't know if applications will be rejected, but this is not usually the case for just a couple of fines that were paid on time. Do you have any other factors against your good character? Please do not open new threads to ask questions, keep using this one.

I read this as being fines from the education authority for taking children out of school without permission.
Anyway, they are fines levied by the authorities.

I have a debt relief order which finished in sept 25,

also I had no choice take my child abroad as my husband sufferes from severe mental health problems and my son is autistic and is totally dependent on me
in 2023 he missed 3 weeks of school and I was fined and paid on time
in 2025 feb he missed 5 days and I paid the fine on time
the 1st occasion I had to go to pakistan because my sister was seriously ill
in February I had to go to Qatar for funeral of a close relative

I have proof my son is disabled as he has EHCP and goes to special school, also I have proof that my husband suffers from severe mental health illness as he has letters from the psychiatrist

these are the 2 FPN I have

the car fines were for parking and going through bus lane these were PCN

am I correct I do not need to declare PCN ?
