Dear all,
Hope you are well.
I want to put a scenario infront of you and will like to take your advices or suggestions:
I applied (10th of Sep 2025) for my wife’s dependent visa extension for three years based on my previous global talent visa. I myself currently hold ILR and have also got my citizenship application approved (last day of oath taking ceremony is 30th of Nov 2025), however I haven’t taken the oath yet and tomorrow is the day (5th of Nov 2025) for which I booked my oath taking ceremony.
My wife’s visa outcome is not with us yet and infact we were told last week (week7 since her visa application) to pay the due IHS amount, which apparently wasn’t paid at time of application (I paid for 2.5 years and they asked me to pay another .5 year as 3 yrs is the minimum extension given on global talent or skilled worker dependent visa ). I paid it immediately and it’s been a week now. The initial decision on my wife’s visa was supposed to be made by 5th of Nov (8 weeks time). However, I’m not sure if she will receive her decision/Visa by tomorrow (5th of Nov) or not.
My fear is if I go ahead with my initial appointment of oath taking ceremony taking place tomorrow (5th of Nov), I will become a British citizen and this will result in change of my status and therefore, it might impact my Mrs dependent visa application as they might ask me to re-apply for her as a spouse or family visa and it will reset the clock.
Can anyone please advise if I don’t attend the ceremony tomorrow and postpone my ceremony by end of Nov (even though if it’s private and have to pay some), will it be worth it waiting for my wife’s visa application decision first (hopefully will get it soon now as have paid the due payment of Ihs and shouldn’t be a problem to delay it). OR do you think it won’t impact her visa route as they have already asked me to pay for ihs top up for 3 yrs visa extension based on my previous global talent visa, which’s expired long time ago. If there was an issue they would have told me to switch to family visa as my oath taking ceremony was booked and I’m sure the citizenship registration number would be issued too to hand me over the certificate tomorrow (in case I attend it) but I know I can’t be British citizen until I take oath, so at the moment my status is still the same (ILR).
Please advise what do you think is the best solution.
Your help would be highly appreciated!
Many thanks
Kind regards
Adil
