Need advise on which type of Visa should I Apply for my child

Post by hemanthSeshasai » Fri Dec 05, 2025 10:04 am

Hi Guys,

"I initially came to the UK in 2019 on a Skilled Worker visa. I got married in December 2022 in India and brought my wife to the UK on a Skilled Worker Dependant visa. I obtained my ILR in August 2024. My wife’s visa expired in January 2025, so I extended her Skilled Worker Dependant visa using my last CoS. In May 2025, my wife went to India to conceive our child, and now I want to bring my child to the UK from India. I would appreciate any advice on which type of visa I should apply for for my child, as I am no longer on a Skilled Worker visa and my wife is still on a Skilled Worker Dependant visa. Thanks

Regards,
Hemanth

You apply for a Skilled Worker dependent visa. The same visa category as your wife.

There is no other visa the child can apply for.

Had the child been born in the uk, the child would have been British automatically if you held ilr at that time of birth, avoiding visa fees and IHS fees.

Also note that your wife has a 180 day limit for absence to qualify for ilr, which she appears to have passed already and her ilr 5 year clock likely starts again from zero.

To build on CR001's answer above, as the child was born abroad, they will follow the same immigration pathway (and incur the same immigration costs) as the second/less-privileged parent (in this case, the mother) upto and including ILR and could then qualify to register as a British citizen if by that time at least one parent has also got British citizenship.
