MN1 Registration-Born outside the UK category?

Post by DKV » Sun Dec 07, 2025 8:33 pm

Hi,

I am currently filling the MN1 application form for my 11 year old daughter who was born in India. She got her ILR in June 2024 and is eligible for citizenship as far as I know.

I am a British citizen since 2021. My route was Set(LR)---ILR----Naturalisation.

Whilst filling the application, i have come across the below question and not sure which category I fall under. Please can someone tell me which one is correct as the first 6 options are not for true for us so does this mean the seventh option is what I have to select?

Choose which category to apply under. You are a child under 18 and:
(Required)

You were born in the UK

You were born outside the UK

    • Your parent is British by descent and lived in the UK or a British Overseas territory for at least 3 years before you were born

Your parent is British by descent and you and your parents (unless they are legally separated) are now living in the UK or a British Overseas territory

You were born on or after 13 January 2010 and your parent was serving in the UK armed forces

You were adopted abroad by British citizen parents

You were born before 1 July 2006 to a British father and your parents were not married

One or both of your parents is applying for British citizenship

Other - apply at the discretion of the Home Secretary
Please let me know.

Thanks,

DKV

Other - apply at the discretion of the Home Secretary
It is only this option that applies to your daughter.

You could have applied for your daughter as soon as she got ILR.

Hi CR001,

Another question please-

I remember few years ago children's referees had to be someone like their teacher, GP or someone that was involved with them. Is this not a requirement anymore as the checklist generated isn't asking for it?

Just curious to know..

Thanks,

It is still required.
