Am I able to travel while applying

Post by Et1234 » Tue Dec 09, 2025 8:51 pm

Hi
I tried to read the threads here but too many to read, so apologies if I ask again some common questions.
I have my ilr for 5 years and start thinking to apply citizenship.
So, from my reading so far, I understand I only need to upload my latest passport pages ,pay the fees and wait for result.
If that is correct in my understanding, my concern is about whether I can be sent away by my company to work overseas for about 3 months after submitting the application? Must I attend the ceremony if it comes back earlier than 6 months and during my absence.
I also read somewhere there is this agency who help to check documents and upload the application with £30-£50 fees, can I have the link pls?

Pls direct me to right pages as I want to understand what I need to provide for application process.

Thanks 🙏

You are free to travel while you wait.

Yo must attend your ceremony in the uk within 90 days after receiving the approval.

There is no such authorised agency offering this odocument checking service.

You simply apply online and upload the minimal document required, then attend your biometrics appointment. Tls offers a document scanning seevice but they will not tell you if your documents are correct or if anything is missing. They are simply a biometric and identity check agency.

Be sure to read about all the evidence that you need to submit. You may need to resubmit some evidence from your earlier applications as well.
Nationality applications are a separate process from immigration applications and have different rules and regulations under different laws. Do not treat it as another immigration application.

To add to CR001's answer above, you need to contact your local council within 21 days of your approval and attend the ceremony within 90 days.

I think the OP is referring to the old Nationality Checking Service provided by some local councils. To the best of my knowledge, that service was withdrawn in 2018-19 (definitely pre-Covid).

Thanks for replying my queries, much appreciate it.
My last question - hopefully - how can I check how long I have my ill status - I only guessed it as my family member got their first PP in 2020 right after a year from getting the ilr status as when I got it. So it should be about 5/6 years now from 2019.
But would like to get a certain answer to that.
Kindly help.

What question in the application are you trying to answer?

No, just want to make sure I am eligible to apply.
Am I right that I must have the ill for 5 yers to apply?
or just 12 months?
Is there a way to check the duration of my ill such as issue date/ year?

If you are not married to a British citizen it's 12 months wait period from ILR grant date to naturalisation.
So you could have applied years ago.
