Visa for the Child who born outside the UK - When father is on ILR and Mother is on Skilled worker Depended Visa

Post by BheemaPatil » Tue Jan 06, 2026 7:35 pm

I am an Indian national and obtained Indefinite Leave to remain(ILR) in the UK in march 2025. I am planning to apply for naturalization in March 2026. My wife is currently on skilled worker depended visa. We had a baby recently and who was born in India in November 2025 and I would like to bring him to the UK. Which visa I should apply for?

You apply for a Skilled Worker dependent visa. You applying or becoming British at some point is irrelevant.

Had the child been born in the uk, the child would have been British automatically.

Child continues on the same pathway as the second/less-privileged parent and needs to apply for the same visas, upto and including ILR, thus effectively doubling the immigration costs.

After the child and the other/second parent have got ILR, the child can be registered as a British citizen.
