Applying for a child born outside the UK (Consideration under British Nationality Act)

Post by New2121 » Fri Jan 09, 2026 12:47 pm

Hi everyone,
Could someone please advise me on this?

I have started an MN1 application for my son. He is under 18, was born outside the UK, and currently holds ILR. I received my British citizenship certificate this month following my naturalisation.

In the first question of the MN1 form (“Consideration under the British Nationality Act”), there are several options. I would like to make sure I select the correct one.

Should I choose “One or both of your parents is applying for British citizenship”, or “Other – apply at the discretion of the Home Secretary”?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Other – apply at the discretion of the Home Secretary
