Permanent residence(EEA4) and British Nationality

Post by oflondon » Sat Oct 16, 2010 10:09 am

Hi everyone, this is how my case goes:
1)I came to the United kingdom on the 24th of december,2006 on 6 months EEA family permit.

2) The EEA family permit was due to expire in june,2007 and then i applied for residence card for 5 years in may,2007 which i got in september,2007 and it will expire in september,2012.

My question is: when and what dates exactly should i apply for permanent residence and british nationality respectively?
I heard that the 5 years residency starts to count on the day i entered the country because i entered on the same status( EEA) and i have been working full-time so also my EEA wife. Should i apply in DEC.,2011 or i will have to wait till SEPT.,2012. Please I need advice and please be specific on the dates. Thanks

Your 5-year qualifying period for permanent residence started when you initially entered the UK as an EEA family member. Therefore, under current laws, you may be eligible for British citizenship 6 years after your initial entry.

Under current laws, yes. However, there may be some changes by 2012.
