Help ...what to do next !!! Ukrainian moving to Spain

Post by levi13 » Sun Nov 27, 2011 8:18 pm

Hello All...I will briefly explain my situation.I am British and i live in Spain.I have lived there for 6 years now.I am 34 years old and my fiancee is 30.I am in the Ukraine now for the next 3 months and i am getting married to my Ukrainian fiancee on the 17th of Dec 2011.To be honest we are just lost with all the different advice on the net about what to do next after we are married. We have most things in order but we do not want to make any little mistakes that can then cause big problems and delays later on.We are due to travel back on the 23rd of Jan to Spain. If there is anyone who has done this or ha any experiance of this then we would be very grateful for your help in this matter. This is not a marriage of convieniance as we have had alot of stupid comments on other sites. Many thanks for reading this and i hope someone can help us

You don't need to worry at all. Your situation is very straightforward and you benefit from the EU directive 2004/38 (even if at some point in the future you would return to UK). In summary, after your marriage, you can get a Schengenvisa for your wife free of charge, and a five year residence card in Spain (for may be a very moderate fee) and your wife will be allowed to work in Spain without any problem (I mean legal restriction, finding a job in the current economic climate may be difficult of course).

As you are British and live in Spain I would recommend to have both an English and a Spanish translation of all relevant Ukrainian documents, such as marriage certificate and your wife's birth certificate, and get them authenticated by apostille.
A practicality: the first two weeks of January a lot of institutions in Ukraine can be closed because of the holiday season (New Year, Orthodox Christmas and Old New Year).

Visados:

Buena suerte,
el Danés
