NTL and Biometric Resident Permit for ILR holder

Post by Mamikins » Fri May 18, 2012 10:12 am

Hello,

I am new on this board, I hiope I am posting this message on the right section. I am a Japanese citizen who was granted Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK in the August of 2005. I have been living in the UK since Spring of 2003. I have recently applied for a new Japanese passport and received it yesterday. Now here is my question: since my ILR is now in my old passport, should I apply for NTL to be issued the biometric resident permit that UKAB is now issuing to the ILR holders or should I not bother with it and just carry both my old and new passports?

Will I have any issues/problems with UKAB or applying for jobs etc if I decide not to bother with applying for NTL and get a biometric residence permit? What will be the best course of action here for long term benefts or passible risks? I will very much appreciate if someone could give me an advice on this issue... I will very much appreciate it.

Ok, so basically, if I wanted to carry just two passports, I could do that, but also if I wanted to apply for NTL and get the new biometric residence permit, I could do that also? So then am I safe to assume that it is still not a mandatry for us ILR holders to apply for NTL to receive the BRP, right? I am sorry about my questioning... I just found out about BRP yesterday when I was looking at the UKBA site and I am not familiar with it at all. I did not have to submit any biometric infiormation when I applied for my ILR years ago, so this is all new to me.
