Does my baby need to apply a visa to go back my country?

Post by shwemi046 » Thu Feb 15, 2007 6:53 pm

Hi

My visa is a leave to remain for 5 years. My baby was born in London. My baby is in my passport. Now, I've decided to go back my country for good. Do I have to apply a visa for my baby to leave from this country to go back to my country? Is there any problem for my baby at the check in counter at the airport? Can you please let me know as soon as possible please?

Best Regard
shwemi

You would want to check with your home country's High Commission or Embassy in London to ascertain this fact. I know for a fact that, most countries have abolished the inscription of babies in their parents passports for travelling post 9/11 and all babies (new born to toddlers) need their own passports to travel these days.

Your baby if not British may not need a visa to travel to your home country (depends on which nationality you are). All you would need is a temporary/permanent passport for your baby to go 'home'.

If you can tell us what sort of leave to remain you have and your country of origin then we can help. Your baby's nationality if Brit too would be a tremendous help.

I would guess that because your baby is in your passport, he is the same nationality as you. Therefore all you have to do is get a passport for your baby from your country's embassy and return to your country.

Obviously your baby would not need to a visa to return to your country if he is a citizen of that country. Neither would your baby require an exit visa to leave the UK, this isn't the old Soviet Union or Cuba.

By the way, who put your baby's name in your passport? You need to be careful because if your baby's name is handwritten into your passport your passport could be considered as being altered or damaged and you may very well need to get a new passport before being allowed onto the plane.

Is that OK?

Hi Dawie &jes2jes

The Embassy put my baby picture in my passport with their stamp but the baby name was written by hand. Is that ok? I got orignial birth certificate. The baby is not british and registered at my embassy in london as my nationality. The embassy staff told me that, If I want to apply a seperate passport for baby , it would take at least 3 months. If I want to put the baby in my passport, it would take 2 weeks. So I decided to put it in my passport. Is that ok or not?

thanks for tell me that the baby doesn't need visa to go home. Save my money. London is very expensive to live, especially with the baby is not easy for me.

Thanks

That's a reeeeaally tiny baby you've got there.

I think you should get a passport for your baby. What's the rush - can't you want 3 months? And why should it take so long? I've never heard of passports taking that long to process when you're a national. I supppose they'd want to to prove the baby's a national of your country, but even then...

You obviously haven't heard of the South African embassy in London....currently taking 4 months or more to process passport applications. That's why you'll always see South Africans in the UK taking very good care of their passports! If you lose it, you're f***ed!
