I have couple of friends waiting 3+ years with no approval.
I myself in a durable relationship, 9 years old and child of 5 but because we did not register our marriage im not even allowed to apply for citizenship.
So same like Pakistan, Ireland doesn't treat cohabiting with long term partner is a legit relationship. My daughter got her first irish passport in 2/3 weeks and just applied by post

You are in Northern Ireland so the UK rules apply to you, not the Irish rules.

As a special rule, Ireland allows naturalisation for spouses of Irish nationals living in Northern Ireland as part of Good Friday Agreement. You apparently do not fall into this category.

A work history and paying taxes is always considered to be helpful.

That's not the way to read my post... it was a spousal dependent visa and that visa owner has NO right to work. My husband was on work visa and has Irish citizenship for 18 months now. How come one can have tax payment when there is no right to work.

Correct. If anything, that probably negatively affected you, as I'm assuming the government needs to make sure you can be self sufficient in terms of job, etc. And probably not having a work/taxes record could have been seen as a bad thing as they have less evidence to try and understand your character.

As other people here have said, citizenship is not a right a we have no entitlement to it. I believe that from the INIS perspective is a matter of "if you don't like then just leave" as they don't have to give anyone citizenship if they don't want to or feel it will benefit the country.

And not to sound rude, but if you don't have a working history or a job that makes you pay taxes in Ireland then to them your contribution is not as significant as someone who does have those things and maybe that's also a reason your application has taken a bit longer.

This of course is all my opinion, as you never know with these public offices. For all we know your file got lost in a pile and the delay has nothing to do with you out your history.

Were you on a stamp 3 dependant visa by any chance? I know stamp 3 holders are not allowed to work on their own.

You are exactly right... its Stamp 3 spousal dependent visa with no right to work.

You are exactly right... its Stamp 3 spousal dependent visa with no right to work.

They really have no excuse whatsoever to delay you application for so long then.
I was talking to an indian colleague of mine today who said her friends got approval in just 3 months in the past and they were also dependent on their husbands. Unbelievable!
She has also applied recently and is quite hopeful but I told her about the unreasonable delays that can be easily avoided by INIS but only if they have really want to do so.
