Citizenship ceremony abroad

Current Nationality - Indian
Status in the UK - ILR (over 18 months)
Application for naturalisation - Intend to to this by the End of Feb

But, I intend to pursue further education for 1 year in India from May 2013 to May 2014.

So, my questions are as follows
1) Is it possible to have a citizenship ceremony while abroad?
2) Does the UK high commission in India hold citizenship ceremony events?
3) Is it then possible to apply for a UK passport while in India?

If you are abroad, the ceremony will be conducted by the diplomatic post in the country where you live as per http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/briti ... /ceremony/

if you are applying in the uk, you certificate will be sent to your local council. it might be worth checking if you apply here, what you need to do if you want to do ceremony in india. i think the link provided above relating to diplomatic posts are for applications made abroad and not from within the uk.

6.11.22.11 The ethos and background relating to citizenship ceremonies is that new citizens are welcomed into their local community. A transfer should therefore only be granted if the applicant has applied for registration or for naturalisation under s.6(2) of the BNA 1981 and is outside the UK indefinitely. If applicants state that they will only away for a few months, we should consider offering an extension to allow them to attend the ceremony in the UK when they return.
6.11.22.12 CCST will not transfer naturalisation claims under s.6(1) as this will cast doubts about whether their future intentions lie in the UK. If a s.6(1) applicant states that they will be abroad for more than 6 months, CCST will refer the case to the appropriate Senior Caseworker to check whether the applicant satisfies the future intentions requirement.
