Waiting for new Passport - new job - what to do? On ILR

Post by g_scheepers » Sun Mar 17, 2013 8:30 pm

Hi,

I hope someone can help! My South-African Passport has expired and I'm still waiting for my new one. The South-African government's extremely slow with processing new passports!! I'm starting a new job soon and don't know what to do. My ILR is inside my expired passport and not sure whether they'll accept this - do anyone have any advice?

Thank you very much.

Just carry the both (new and old) passports and you should be fine.

Thanks - I haven't received my new passport yet and I doubt I'll receive it for at least another month. Do you think my new employers will accept my expired passport while I wait for my new one?

Your ILR is obviously still valid and doesn't expire with your passport so you could use the expired passport and your drivers license as photographic ID. That's what I do at work as I am in HR and deal with right to work documents on a daily basis. Also, if you explain to the company they should be understanding.

I think yes. You must have the acknowledgement receipt too confirming your new passport application. you can show it too.
