Query on documents needed for Naturalisation

Post by Pulsar » Sat Apr 20, 2013 1:19 pm

Dear experts
I am preparing my application for Naturalisation. Please can you advise on the following:

1) I passed my Life in the UK test when I applied fro ILR 18 months ago. However I do not have the certificate. under section 1.22 of form AN if I tick 'I met the knowledge of language and life requirement to qualify for settlement' but dont attach a certificate will that be a problem? I realise that the home office holds electronic records.

2) To prove residency, I left my old job in July last year and have a letter from that employer confirming the dates of employment and the letter addressed to 'whom it may concern'. Is this good enough?

Look forward to your advice.

Is this good enough? Employment is not a requirement for naturalisation. Residency proof is your passport (new and expired) and you need to have been physically present in the UK exactly 5 years to the day on the date that UKBA receives your application.

Look forward to your advice.

Many thanks. I wasn't sure what they mean by a 'confirmation' and thought the certificate is my only source to confirm.

I have the passports and I meet the residency creiteria. I thought you have to submit letters in addition to passports? Forgive me I'm just going throug these things today.

No, there is no need for letters. See below link, page 14 of the AN Guide

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitec ... ide_an.pdf

It says Passport OR if not able to provide passport say why and then provide letters.

Are you applying on the basis of 5 years residency or 3 years as spouse of BC?
I wasn't sure what they mean by a 'confirmation' and thought the certificate is my only source to confirm.
You can explain on the additional information page of the form that you have lost the certificate. Do you have a copy or any details as if you can provide this it will be easier.

Thanks for the advice.

I am applying on a 5 year WP + 1.5 ILR.

Life in the UK: I re-checked the guide and it states 'your confirmation' which I am assuming doesnt need a certificate.

Another trivial question: 1.1 on the form (UK border agency reference) where can I find this?

As I have said, you can write in the Additional Information section of the form that you have lost it but have used it for ILR.

Will that hinder my application/ will I have to take the test again?
Many thanks
