UK Family Visitor Visa - Dependent Children

Post by Leonite » Tue Jun 18, 2013 11:14 am

Hi,

This is with regards to the one of the sections of the Family Visitor Visa application form which my father is filling to apply for visa to meet me. The section in the online form asks 'Do you have any dependent children?' he is in doubt whether to answer Yes to No to this question.

I have a sister aged 32 who is unmarried, works part time & stays with my father. She earns approx 7000 INR as monthly salary from her part time job & has a rental income of 15000 INR per month. My father bears her day to day living expenses. She has never stayed away from home and is also emotionally dependent on my him.

Would she be considered as his 'dependent' child? Hence, should he answer Yes or No to the question 'Do you have any dependent children?' in the form?

Please advise.

Thanks,
Sunil

The answer would be no as she is 32 and earns her own income, so is therefore not dependent on him for this purpose

CR001,

Thanks for your reply.

I clearly understand your point however I would to provide more detailed information like she do not own the house where she lives with my father.

I believe she cannot go and live somewhere in a metro city on the basis of her income as 22,000 INR would not be enough to accommodate the living expenses.

Would these scenarios not be considered for dependent status?

Is there any checkpoint for minimum income, to which if anyone reaches it, he or she would not be considered as financially dependent?

Many thanks,

The definition on the UKBA website says :
Dependent children
Any children you have who depend on you financially.
http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/glossary?letter=D

But in general, dependent children generally means those who are wholly dependent or under 18.

I don't know what difference it would make as she is not traveling with your father as your post indicates.
