Life in the UK and English language test

Post by nitinaggarwal05 » Tue Jun 18, 2013 2:26 pm

Hi All,

Me and wife are due to apply for ILR. I came to UK on HSMP(general) in January 2008, got married in November 2009 in India and my wife came to UK in March 2010 as Tier 1(general) dependent. I renewed my visa as Tier 1 twice.

I need small clarification. Does my wife also need to give Life in the UK test?

I think the answer is yes.

But does she also need to demonstrate her English skills?

When she came to Uk, English language was not a requirement (i think) .Even though she is highly qualified she never was asked to bring any letter to show that her degree was taught in English.

Please let me know

Thanks
Nitin

Yes your wife also needs to give Life in the UK test.

As per current rules No she did not show or demonstrate her English skills.

Hope this clarify, when you planning to put file because immigration rules changes soon regarding english requirement.

Hope this clarify your all quries.

Yes if applying after Oct 2013. Otherwise LIUK will suffice as proof of English, as the test is itself in English.

You must meet the requirements for settlement at the time of application for settlement.

My husband will be applying for ILR in August. He has a bachelor's degree from a UK university - studied in London. I was under the impression that this was enough for him to demonstrate English language/knowlege etc.
Does he also need to take the Life in the Uk test?
I know the rules will be changing in October, but what are the current requirements?
Thanks!
Anna

He needs to do Life in the UK, this is a mandatory requirement for ILR.
