Does travel Itinerary needed before applying for visa

I am soon applying for family settlement visa, during online application form filling they suggested to have itinerary, Do I need to book the ticket without knowing when i will get the visa.

No, you don't need to book the flights. You can put the approximate dates that you anticipate / wish your family to travel.
