Options? BRP (maybe) lost, travelling in 2.5 weeks

Post by yasdnil » Mon May 05, 2014 3:12 pm

Hello there. Today my wife realized her BRP isn't in her passport, so we are on a mad hunt to find it since we are due to travel on the 21st of May. Now, we aren't sure if it's *lost*, or if it's in our house somewhere... but before we give up looking we want to know our options and get advice asap.
  • We could report it lost today with the police, and apply for a replacement BRP, hoping it arrives in time for travel.
  • We don't need to send our passport in our BRP application, so theoretically if it doesn't arrive, we could still leave to the US and have a family member post it to us? We return on the 24th of Jul, so lots of time for a basic BRP replacement...right?
  • Third option is we don't report it lost since we don't know it's lost. Keep looking and if we don't find it we fly to the US and report it lost then, apply for the BRP travel visa for my wife to return to the country, and then apply for the replacement when we're back. We don't like this option because it feels dishonest to not report it straight away if we can't find it.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. This is a family trip to the US, very expensive, etc, so we cannot imagine not going...

Well I can tell you know that it is unlikely you will get a replacement BRP before you travel if you apply now. These applications take longer than 2 weeks and my application took almost 4 months.

Keep looking, maybe it just fell out somewhere at home.
