Extending a 6month visitor visa. 3wks/6months in UK

Hi guys,

My girlfriend is a Chinese passport holder who lives in Sweden. She was granted a 6 month visa for the UK that expires at the end of this month.

During the past 5.5 months she has come here for a few weekend breaks and a couple of week long stays.

Some of the literature I read on the government website seemed to suggest that as she hadn't spent the whole 6 months here, she might be eligible to extend her visitor visa.

However the website is pretty confusing, so I thought id see if any of you guys had come across this situation before?

Can only extend a visit visa in 'the most extreme and compassionate circumstances'. This means civil war, terminal illness etc...

You may be able to extend your visa as long as the total time you spend in the UK is less than 6 months - eg if you apply for a 3 month visa, you can apply to extend it for 3 more months
