I am a Canadian teacher that just moved to UK on Dec 29th, 2015 to teach with a letter saying my Tier 5 application has been successful and I should be able to collect my BRP card as of Jan 6th, 2016 at this post office.
I went to collect my BRP card but they told me it hasn't arrived yet. I went back after few days, same answer. I have made an enquiry to BRP collection teams and BRP delivery teams. They said there's a technical issue with the Home Office and I can't do anything about it so I'm just waiting and waiting. The school I work for was very kind to make further enquiries and complaints about this also -but we're getting the same answer. It's been 6 weeks now and I'm stuck here- and of course, my Entrance Visa that was valid for 30 days also expired. So I'm actually lost up in the air.
Issues I'm having without my BRP card:
1. I can't open a bank account - my payslips has been made to my colleagues' and I had to collect it from her every now and then
2. My entrance visa expired while I was waiting for my BRP card.
3. Can't travel anywhere - (I've asked if I could go back home in Canada and return when my BRP is ready, they said 'probably not'.)
4. Can't make a contract with any accommodation since I can't make bank transfers and landlords find it difficult to make a contract with me when my visa is expired and I don't have any bank account here in UK. And I also don't want to make long-term contracts since I am so unsettled here at the moment.
Is there anyone going through similar issues like this?

This just goes to show how misguided it was of the government to just issue the visas for 30 days, not the full length of the stay the holder has been granted. If the visa in the passport echoed the BRP then this wouldn't be a problem. I'm sorry you're being affected by this. It's a disastrous system.

There seems to be a number of threads across the boards all pointing to the same issue regarding the unavailability of the BRP.
I have seen a couple of instances already where new to Tier 2 workers coming in on the travel visa being stuck in the Uk because they can't access their BRP.
One individual was to join the UK company and then do his training induction in the USA with the parent company. Because he could not get hold of his BRP he could not fly out for his training.
There are issues with the system for sure.

Without my BRP card, can I travel to France for few days and then re-enter to UK? I've heard I might have trouble re-entering to UK if I leave without BRP card.
I'm currently working and I'm still waiting for my BRP card for 6 weeks but I don't think it will arrive soon as my co-worker told me she had to wait for 6-7 months. I'm scared i might be refused to enter if I travel to France next week. If they put me as a travel visitor, I don't think I'm allowed to work.
Does anyone have a clue on this?

Do not travel without your BRP. If you are admitted into the UK as a visitor, there is a risk that your visa could be cancelled and yes, you will not be permitted to work.
Have you contacted your local MP to see if they could assist and find out from HO?

As Candian national life is a little less difficult as a non visa national for visitor purposes.
You are unlikely to be denied entry back into the UK but expect an issue on your return....
If you are going to travel take ALL your documents in relation to your Tier 5 with you and if you have evidence of the BRP problem that as well.
Remember if you decide to travel there is a risk involved and you return time at immigration is potentially going to increase by a hour or two IF the immigration officer makes a meal of it.

Have you received your BRP? If you have received how long it took?
Kindly

Hi Choa,
can you please provide a follow up on what happened finally? I am in the same situation as you. Can you tell me if you were allowed to work after your visa expired and when you finally got your BRP?
This will help me very much. Thanks
