Tier 2 Extension - 6 year max in UK?

Hello,
Hopefully this is an easy answer...but want to make sure I'm correct with my thinking before I start my application process.

I've been in the UK for 5.5 years(it'll be 6 in Sept). However it's been in a few different categories.
1.5 years - Student Visa
1.5 years - PSW Tier 1
2.5 years - Tier 2 General

My Tier 2 runs out in July, so need to extend. Does the 6 year max time spent in the UK only apply to the time I've spent on the Tier 2 category? Or is the overall time I've spend in the UK?

6 year cap is ONLY relevant to Tier 2 G time.
