Housing Benefits British husband Nigerian Wife

Post by lush » Tue May 03, 2016 5:01 pm

Hi All,

I'm Nigerian currently on spouse visa expiring Feb 2018
My husband is British, we have a daughter today, she's also british
We are currently staying in a two bed flat giving to us by the housing association
Now, my husband says us wants to claim housing benefit.
He's job is ending 15th May. So, he has gotten a letter from his work place stating he's going to stop working on the 15th May.
Will claiming joint house benefit with him affect my renewal in Feb 2018?

He already claims Child benefit for our daughter
I'm currently pregnant with our second child. I really do not want issues with public funds.

Please advise us.
Thanks

You are not allowed to claim benefit at all in your name if you are on a spouse visa.

Your husband can claim housing benefit but is NOT entitled to the couple rate and has to only get the single person + child rate.

For your renewal in 2018, remember that you have to meet the English and Financial requirement again and benefits do not count towards the financial requirement.

Thanks so much.
I went to university here. So, I will use my BSc. Degree to meet English Requiremets. For Financial, I will be working. I'm currently earning 30,000 a year.

I suppose that will suffice for my renewinf in 2018, If My husband doesn't get a job before them but I believe he will get a job before then.

Does he have to meet financial requirement? Or Can I do it alone with my current Salary?

This is fine.

For HB, your income (household) will be taken into account to calculate any entitled your husband might have. Don't think he will get that much tbh with your high salary.

Your husband might want to do the benefit calculator in the link below. It will give a fairly accurate estimate provided he inputs all the correct info relating to your/his circumstances.
