Single Parent of a British citizen born & living outside UK

Post by longhorn » Mon May 09, 2016 5:09 pm

Hi All,

I am asking this question on behalf of a friend. She’s the mother of two children (both British citizens). She is a single parent, currently resides in Hong Kong and has full responsibilities of the children. She divorced her husband a few year ago. The father is now married to another woman. She doesn't currently work and relies on the benefit from the Govt of Hong Kong. Both children were born in Hong Kong and have never been to UK though they both have already got the British Passports because the father is a British national. Now the mother needs to know if there’s a route available to her to be able to arrive and live here in UK permanently. I believe the usual family routes only apply to parents where the child’s already in the UK. However, a quick search on google told me that there’s a route available but I didn't get much information on that. Could some experts please shed some light on this?

If there’s such a policy, I will highly appreciate if you could provide a link to the policy guidance/application form etcetera?

Is the father a full British born or naturalised citizen, i.e not born in Hong Kong and a British overseas citizen?
Char (CR001 not Casa)
