DOB mistake on VAF4A Spouse Visa form, can it be corrected?

I have made an elementary mistake filling out the online application form VAF4A for my partner's Spouse Visa.
The mistake is the applicant's Year of birth 1987 instead of 1986.

Having submitted the online application and paid the IHS surcharge it is now un-editable.
Can we correct the error on the application form print out to be submitted to the embassy?

What is the effect of this? How will the ECO view this?

I had worried that the ECO would not look kindly upon a husband who mistakes his wife's DOB!

What is the recommended format for the amendment?
Highlighting the line with the error, writing PTO, and writing the correction note on the back of the page? or otherwise?

(Off Topic: Does the sponsor's passport scans need to be solicitor notarized, certified at Post Office or not at all?)

Spouse can cross out the error and write correct one next to or above it and then just initial it. You can provide a cover note to briefly explain the error.

Don't think they need to be certified, but having the biometric page of the passport certified won't do any harm. PO can do it, cheaper than solicitors.
