Sponsoring a friend visitor to the UK

Post by Gurwinder » Mon Jun 20, 2016 9:13 am

I have a few questions regarding the sponsorship letter for inviting a friend to the UK.

1. If I as an Indian is sending the invitation letter, can an other person sponsor who is not an Indian national?

2. In case I myself decide to sponsor, then can I be a student or an unemployed person capable of showing funds through bank?

3. As a sponsor, how much funds do I need to show for a person visiting for a short term of 15 days?

4. From the site I could place 2 forms a) the Miscellaneous Form and b) the Sponsorship form; besides these is there any other documentation that must be filled in? Ofcourse the proofs must be attached and sent along with but besides these 2 main documents?

5. What is the exact procedure to apply for the sponsorship? Where can I get to know the exact details? Can someone guide me?

6. Do the person visiting the UK still need to show a proof of his/her bank details if he / she is receiving a sponsorship?

1. Anyone can sponsor, it is not 'nationality specific'.

2. You can sponsor if you wish as long as you can prove accommodation and immigration status.

3. There is no 'maintenance funds' value as such.

4. What 'miscellaneous form' are you referring to? Provide the link to this form. Sponsorship undertaking form (SU07) is NOT required for visitor visas.

5. What exactly do you want to know or do you mean by 'sponsorship'? You seem to be confusing this 'term' with a range of other visas. Your friend is applying for a visitor visa, not a residence visa and the guidance is clear that the applicant has to prove they are a genuine visitor.

6. Yes, the applicant has to prove to the ECO that he/she is a genuine visitor and has strong ties to their home country, regardless of who sponsors their 'visit'.
