Hello,
I am British citizen while my wife is on a spouse visa with no recourse to public funds. We both work and I would be eligible for tax credits. We have a child (British) too.
Her FLR application is due next year. I chatted with a HMRC adviser through live chat who stated that I wouldn't be eligible. I may call them up to find out more but I thought I would ask here.
If I apply for tax credits would it affect her visa application? I don't want to risk it and for them to turn around and say, "You weren't eligible."
Thanks for the help.

Child benefit must be claimed in YOUR name only.
Tax credits MUST be claimed in JOINT names with your spouse.
No effect on her visa or extension.

Thanks for your response.
Already claiming child benefit in my name.
Strange why the adviser said wasn't eligible.

It also depends on your income or how you have asked the question.

Can this be do.
Why would someone do this? Spouse information has to be listed, if not, it is lying/deceiving HMRC.

Woo Wooo! lying / deceiving are harsh and not the appropriate words here .nobody wants to do that.
but what is wrong in not filling the partner section if you dont want to. dont you have that choice was my query.

No, you don't have a choice. If you have a partner/spouse living with you, the details have to be completed.
