Mentally illl adult stepdaughter of British citizen

Post by Clanatta2 » Thu Jun 30, 2016 9:35 pm

I married a Southamerican lady about a year ago. My wife has a daughter that used to live with her in Peru. She suffers from clinical depression, bI polar personality, and psychiatric problems. She doesn't have any other family members, and currently lives alone. A couple of weeks ago, in a middle of a crisis, had a suicidal attempt. Her psychiatric made clear to us that she cannot live alone anymore. She cannot work, and all her up keeping is paid by me.

I am a high earner, and I can pay all her expenses without any problem. How can I bring her to live permanently with us?

Thanks a lot in advance for your help

And what is your immigration status in the UK?

I would like to add that my stepdaughter is 24 years old, and her condition became much worst since my wife joined me in the UK. She was independent and full time employed, but now requires permanent care.

Sorry, only just realised your nationality in the subject heading.

So assuming your wife is on a spouse settlement visa (30 months), there isn't really a way to bring an adult dependent relative. The visa is very expensive and virtually impossible to get and once refused, shuts the door on any future visit visor applications.

See the link below to see how tough the requirements are since July 2012.

Not many options.....

1. Move to her country.

2. Try Adult Dependent Relative - almost 100% refused.

3. Relocate to EU attempt dependant family member and after about 1 year relocate to UK under Surinder Singh ruling, almost certainly to be gone/restricted/made even harder by hen given brexit...

4. Employ someone to look after her in S. America, should be no issue if you are high earner.
