ashturbo wrote:Hey all, I was glad to find this useful forum after searching everywhere and calling various government/councils but still unable to find the information I require, so hoping someone one here can shed some light as I am desperate now.
My current status is :-
-Indefinite leave to remain on an Indian passport (held ILR for last 8years ) (Lived in UK since 1998)
-Have the English qualifications for Life in the UK Is this B1 level English from an approved test/test provider?
-Passed the Life in the UK test
Am I right in thinking I need to fill in the AN form for naturalisation + British passport form? Form AN is for British citizenship, the passport application is a separate form. You will only qualify for a British passport once you have been granted BC.
I am also looking to change my Surname, Would you recommend me doing this after I have received my british passport OR could this be done in the process of the application ( I understand I will need to apply for a deedpoll) Changing it now will complicate your application and is likely to delay a decision.
Thanks for reading and hoping you can help me as I would greatly appreciate it.
Regards,
Ash
What English qualification do you have? The English language requirement and LIUK are two separate things and requirements.Have the English qualifications for Life in the UK

Strongly recommend you do this AFTER you eventually get your British passport. If you choose to do it before, you will have to change your foreign passport too before applying for citizenship.I am also looking to change my Surname, Would you recommend me doing this after I have received my british passport OR could this be done in the process of the application ( I understand I will need to apply for a deedpoll)
1. I have the ESOL skills for life ( Speaking and listening ) QCFCR001 wrote:What English qualification do you have? The English language requirement and LIUK are two separate things and requirements.Have the English qualifications for Life in the UK

Yes, if you apply through NCS you complete both if you want to do the joint citizen and passport application. If you only want to do citizenship, you only complete form AN and passport application will be separate once you are British and have attended your ceremony.Strongly recommend you do this AFTER you eventually get your British passport. When did you do this test? ESOL is no longer accepted. You will likely need to do another test form one of the approved test providers. See FAQs English Language Requirement for citizenship (click)1. I have the ESOL skills for life ( Speaking and listening ) QCF
Suggest check with your council NCS, they will provide you with some basic info on what they require and the cost of their service.2. I would like to go for the joint application
Very wise.3. I am definitely leaving the change of surname till after the british passport.

Just asked her, Its a permanent resident card for UK on an indian passportCR001 wrote:What do you mean by 'long stay permit'? There is no such visa category. What exactly does her 'permit' say?
Oh okay, She was born in India, Father is Portuguese who moved to the UK in the 90s (had a Portuguese passport back then ) and now holds a british passport.CR001 wrote:Permanent Residence is the same as ILR but PR is gained through the EEA route whereas ILR is obtained through the UK immigration route. Is she a family member of an EU citizen? What is her full immigration history?
Yes it says permanent residency for UK, So she wont need to apply for the ILR?CR001 wrote:Did both of you follow the same immigration route through your father?
If she has permanent residency, if that is what the sticker in her passport says, then she can apply for citizenship too.
Yep, booked in at Trinity SELT Holborn. Thanks for the info CR001CR001 wrote:As long as your test providers is on the HO approved list, you should be fine.
Glad you asked before applying
Cheers for the heads upohara wrote:Judging by how good your written English on this forum is, you should have no problem with the B1 spoken test.
Good luck.
I picked "Technology" , The examiner was cracking up with laughter after I finished explaining how driverless cars work.ohara wrote:Congrats. I got a distinction on mine too but then again I have been speaking mainly English for the last 25 years
What did you choose for your topic?
Ha yes, I chose photography for mine as I am a photographer. When I waked in to the test room I said straight away "this shouldn't be difficult; I'm a native English speaker"ashturbo wrote:I picked "Technology" , The examiner was cracking up with laughter after I finished explaining how driverless cars work.ohara wrote:Congrats.
