Citizenship query

Post by Hola2015 » Fri Jul 15, 2016 5:00 pm

Hi,
I applied for citizenship with my wife on the 29th March 2016 after 1 year on ILR from Tier 1 General. While I have received approval/ceremony invitation from both council and HO for myself last week 08/07/16. We are yet to receive my wife's approval letter from HO.

I have tried to call my council to enquire if they had received notification from HO about my wife's application; I have had no luck geting through to the citizenship team at my council on phone. The council has sent a letter to me with a ceremony date of 04/08/16, but since it will be logistically preferable to have the ceremony together with my wife; I have not confirm my attendance yet. The ceremony centre is about 50 minutesdrive from our home.

My questions are:
1) Is it worth it to call HO to enquire about her application bearing in mind that it is not yet up to their golden 6 months timeline

2) While the letter from the HO states that I should contact the council within 2 weeks of the letter, but no deadline stated on the council letter. Do anyone has an idea when is the deadline to confirm attendance with the council please?

Thank you for your help.

You have to book your ceremony within 21 days. HO make the rules, not the council.

Your wife's application will be decided on its own, provided she meets all the requirements, it has no relation to your application and approval. Each applicant has to meet the requirement and each applicant is assessed individually. You cannot phone HO, she will have to do but unlikely that they will provide any update.

You could contact the council to move the date later though and hope your wife gets her approval soon.

We applied in one go ( My husband ,me and 2 kids) and all the letters we receive are on my husbands name. Even invitation to Ceremony for me which arrived today was addressed to my husband. Also our aproval was Dear Mr and Mrs Surname I am pleased to inform you that your - family application for Citizenship has been successful.

I think I understand and agree with CR001. The application is decided on individual merit; the letter you received as a confirmation of your approval does not indicate that the applications were considered jointly. I believe you were all assessed individually based on the law. Having said, many congratulations on your succesful application!
