Is it possible to travel with a ILR Letter?

Post by van15150 » Thu Jul 28, 2016 2:10 pm

Hello,

I have the older indefinite leave to remain residence permit letter (not the biometrics one), can I travel with this? Is it classed as a travel document? It has my name, picture and date of birth on it.

Thank you

Yes, you can travel. It is valid as ILR but if in an older passport, you will need to carry both passports obviously.

Thank you so much for replying CR001 :) So it is classed as a travel document then??? Sorry for all the questions, I just wanted to know because I am applying for a provisional drivers license but I need proof of identity and don't have a passport. I called up the DVLA and they asked me if I was able to travel with the ILR letter, but I wasn't sure :'( But if you say that I can travel with it, then it would considered as a travel document right??

No, sorry, I assumed that you held a passport.

I don't think what you have is a travel document if it is a letter indicating ILR.
