Successful approval but unclear with next steps

Post by foundpokemon2016 » Wed Aug 24, 2016 9:04 pm

Hi

I have just received my approval letter from HO comnfirming my successful Naturalisation application.

But I am confused with the next steps as my council havent got dates for a ceremony until end of next month.

1. Can I apply for ceremony from a different council?
2. Can I apply for passports before my ceremony? As I can see from the forum most of them applied for passports before approval. But I cant find clear details any where how to apply. can anyone please suggect me here

1) Not sure. Ask council or book private ceremony.

2) No. Only citizens may apply for privilege of passport;
you are not British 'until the fat lady sings' (at the ceremony).

1. No. The process to change councils will take longer than waiting for the ceremony as certificate has to be sent back to HO and you have to request the change before certificate can then be sent to another council. Book a private ceremony if they have available.

2. No you can't. Yoy will have to wat till after your ceremony. The people that have applied for passports before their ceremony have applied using the joint citizenship and passport scheme at NHS.

...and even with the JCAP scheme the passport is only issued after the ceremony.

Please don't send me PMs asking for immigration advice on posts that are on the open forum. If I haven't responded there, it's because I don't have the answer. I'm a moderator, not a legal professional.

Thanks, however please see below as it is from one of the post in MAY timelines

Eligibility criteria: ILR for 10 years
Language criteria met: LITUK + Native to English speaking country
Nationality: Jamaican
Method of application: JCAP + NCS (Peckham)
Date of application:10/05/2016
Payment method: debit card
Date of receipt by UKBA: 12/05/2016 (post office tracking)
Date of acknowledgement: 30/05/2016 (email from home office)
Date money gone off account: 29/05/2016
Date of letter requesting biometrics: 03/06/2016 (dated the 27/05/2016)
Biometrics done: 07/06/2016
Date of approval: recieved - 20/08/2016 (Dated 12/08/2016)
Date of ceremony: 25/08/16
Date applied for passports: 10/05/2016 (new scheme)
Date passports received: TBA[/quote]

Date of application is same as date passports applied and they say it as new scheme

Unclear about the above

New scheme = JCAP = joint citizenship & passport application through selected NCS offices.

This only applies to people having applied for citizenship at specific NCS offices offering this service and passports are only issued after the citizenship ceremony (council notified passport office of attendance). That's why the application dates for citizenship and passport are always the same for those cases.

1. Usually, this needs to be specified at the time of application. Form AN clearly states in one of the questions that the ceremony is held at you local council and if you wish to have it held elsewhere, to state it on the form. Unless you mentioned it to be held elsewhere on the form at the time of application, it may be a long procedure to change it now.

2. No, as mentioned, people who have applied used the NCS JCAP scheme and unless you used JCAP, you must wait until after your ceremony. Even with the JCAP scheme, the passport application is on hold until the applicant becomes a BC.

The example you have given is someone who applied through NCS JCAP.
