Expiry date on Passport

Post by babaty2k02 » Sat Sep 03, 2016 1:32 pm

A friend will be applying in October 2016 to extend his current leave Tier1 E, together with his dependants.

One of the dependant's passport will expire January 2017. The solicitor had advised that the passport cannot be used as it has to be valid for at least 6 months, and that he should get another passport for the dependant before sending the application.
Please could you kindly advise?

Thank you

There is no such requirement. Passport must be valid at time of application.

Given that T1E is postal, it might be easier to renew passport to avoid a gap in "valid" passports further down the immigration route.

I'm always astounded (and concerned) when so called legal 'professionals' give incorrect advice, often on the simplest requirements for a visa application.

Please don't send me PMs asking for immigration advice on posts that are on the open forum. If I haven't responded there, it's because I don't have the answer. I'm a moderator, not a legal professional.

Hi, Could you please kindly explain your statement about "to avoid a gap in 'valid' passports further down....." (and please note its one of his dependants passport).

Thank you.
