Next Steps for Marriage?

Post by Samanthabehr90 » Wed Sep 07, 2016 3:51 pm

I'm here on a standard visitor visa and my boyfriend proposed, I just would like to know what are the next steps when it comes for us being able to get married.

To get married in the UK, you have to give28 days notice at an HO approved registry office. They are obliged to inform HO of a non-EU citizen wanting to marry and this notice period acne then be extended to 70 days for HO to investigate and possible interview both of you separately. Only once HO grants permission can you marry.

You shouldn't marry on your current standard visit visa though as it is not really for that purpose.

You will still have to leave the UK though to apply for the appropriate visa from your home country, either a fiance visa valid for 6 months to marry and then switch to spouse visa or marry in your home country and apply floor a spouse visa.

Depending on your nationality, you need to meet the A1 English language requirement and your fiance/spouse has to meet the £18,600pa financial requirement.
