1st and 2nd Referee declarations

Post by Condor82 » Wed Sep 28, 2016 9:40 am

Hi guys,

I'm filling my naturalisation form and I'm stuck at the referee declaration section.

I kindly need your advice:

-If the 1st and 2nd referee are British citizens do they need to be in the list of professions, or be at least 25 years of age is the only requirement in that case?

https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... ersons.pdf

- Is the first or the second referee that must be British?

- If one of the referees is not a British citizen, does that imply that he needs to reside in UK or can be living elsewhere?

- If I have an Italian friend that has a degree as accountant but here in UK is working in another field not on that list, can I count him in or do I need to find someone else?

Many thanks :)

Professional referee: Do they need to live in the UK?

Post by Condor82 » Thu Sep 29, 2016 8:11 am

Hi all,

I know a doctor (for more than 3 years) that lives in Italy (never been in the UK)

Can I choose him to represent me as referee?

Many thanks!

Yes, professional referee can be any nationality and does not have to live in the UK.

So should I be concerned that if they contact my referee in Italy he doesn't speak English at all? :/

HO very rarely contact referees. If HO are not happy with a referee you have provided, they will likely ask you to provide another one.

HO also have translation services available if necessary.

If I ask a friend (with no British citizenship) of mine that is Operations Analyst - Services Innovation Excellence Center at Cisco, does that work as professional referee?

Please let me know for the above and many thanks!

Check if her occupation is on the list.

On that list it's only written Accountant, and that's quite generic. He has a bachelors in Economics and now he is working as Operations Analyst, that's the reason why of my doubt if I can include him or not as referee.

No, it is not 'generic'. An Accountant is an Accountant, ie qualified and registered with the appropriate governing body to work in Finance and Accounts, ie. Chartered Accountant, ACCA qualified etc.

Ok guys,

I see what you mean.

But are doctors still acceptable? 'Cause I found this link from 2010.

https://www.freemovement.org.uk/doctors ... me-office/

If they are I will ask my GP in Italy

Doctors are not on the CURRENT list. Some people have used them, but for children I think.

It is pointless looking at documents that are 6 years old. HO changes things fairly often. Have you looked at the current list?

Yes but according to this link doctor can still be used as referee and my GP knows me for more than 10 years so that should suffice.

Or do I have to start going to some mosque or church to get to know the right person?

Your referees, both of them, must have known you for at least 3 years. The list you should have looked at is the one linked below from HO website.
