Inviting my mother to come UK under visit visa catagory

Post by dina123 » Mon Dec 26, 2016 9:01 pm

Hi I request for help as I want to bring my mother in the UK under general visitor visa category. My mother is nearly 70 years old living in Bangladesh and I am a naturalized British citizen living in London with my wife and two children. I want to invite my mother to come here for a visit. I am a postman and claim for housing benefits and child tax credit, living in a council flat. Question is:

1. Can I invite her to come here under visit visa, can I become her sponsor?

2. If not, can my elder brother (also lives in Bangladesh) be her sponsor?

3. Any other restrictions or requirements affect me?

4. If I cannot eligible as her financial sponsor, can I still invite her to come?

my annual income roughly £20,000 without benefits.

Thank you all, wish you all have a nice Christmas holiday.

Yes you can invite her here and be her named sponsor

2. If not, can my elder brother (also lives in Bangladesh) be her sponsor?
Not in terms of inviting her to the UK. He can offer financial support to her but see below

3. Any other restrictions or requirements affect me?
potentially there could be an issue with overcrowding in your social housing. It may be worth getting a letter to confirm that this is not an issue. [

I am guessing you are paying for her flight etc. Or that your brother is or helping to do so. That in itself is not a problem. The issues you face because of her age and possible lack of ties with her home country. Has she traveled to the UK before? The ECO will be very sceptical if she has not traveled before and if she has no financial ties, land ownership etc in BGD.

my annual income roughly £20,000 without benefits.

Thank you all, wish you all have a nice Christmas holiday.

Thanks for your reply. She never came to the UK but went to India for treatment and Saudi Arabia for hajj. She owns some property such as land and building from which she earns each month sufficient income to maintain her life. My brother is a high official govt. officer and visited UK many times for the purpose of his job and he is ready to provide anything from his side as required.

so, what sort of evidence can she provide for all this?
Thanks again.

No, it will have no effect on a positive outcome for a visa.

She needs to submit documentary evidence of her personal, family and financial ties to her home country, i.e. bank statements, proof of income, property, family ties, spouse details (if any).

The forum has 100's/1000's of such topics, many refusals, some successes, for elderly parents.

A lawyer's affidavit won't carry any weight.

You need to submit documented evidence of property ownership, income showing your mother is able to support herself in her home country and any strong family ties she has there.

Please don't send me PMs asking for immigration advice on posts that are on the open forum. If I haven't responded there, it's because I don't have the answer. I'm a moderator, not a legal professional.
