applying first passport question.

Post by Tommy22 » Fri Jan 06, 2017 3:38 pm

Hello, sorry if this question has been asked before.

i recently become a British citizen and i want to know do i need to apply for a passport straight away ? i currently hold a new Finnish passport which still has over 4 years till it expires. I cannot give myself a reason to apply for a British passport right away, as it would be a waste of money? any advise?

Thank You

There is no legal requirement to apply for a British passport, so the answer to your questions is, you can apply whenever you feel it is necessary.

I don't think you have to apply for a British Passport - it's your decision.
Lots of British people don't have passports.

Ask yourself if you think passport fees will go up in the future?

British Passport is not compulsory, but post Britain exiting the EU it would be advisable to have one, for re-entering the UK. But remember it's the easiest / most convenient way to prove you are a British citizen, apart from taking your certificate with you.
This is just my opinion as a member of this forum and does not constitute immigration advice.

In February 2016, British citizens had visa-free or visa on arrival access to 175 countries and territories, ranking the British passport 3rd in the world (tied with Finnish, French, Italian and Spanish), just after German (177) and Swedish (176).

Additionally, the World Tourism Organization also published a report on 15 January 2016 ranking the British passport 1st in the world (tied with Denmark, Finland, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg and Singapore) in terms of travel freedom, with a mobility index of 160

Tough call. Even the colour is similar! But suggest cost should not be a factor.
