How can my kids become US citizens?

Post by cdntluvumore » Thu Jan 19, 2017 11:33 pm

I'm in the process of becoming a US citizen. My children both have UK and South African citizenship currently. We would like them to also have US citizenship so will drop the SA citizenship. I'm just wondering if they must first become residents here or if they can jump straight to citizenship? They are 5 and 3 and the one on the way will be born here so automatically a citizen.

Thanks:)

I think that they would both need a green card first and both parents would have to naturalize.

Why do you want them to loose the SA citizenship?

As soon as the parents become citizens, the children under 18 can apply to become citizens. They do not need to be a PR.
